Original Dr. Nielsen’s Bitter has a rich history dating back to the dark 1930s, when it was developed by Dr. Nielsen, a passionate hunter and outdoorsman who lived in Hobro. In close collaboration with the apothecary family, he strove to create “the real bitter”. Their efforts bore fruit, and a versatile bitter with a wide range of uses saw the light of day. In 1988, the recipe was handed over to Johs. M. Klein Distribution A/S, who completed this iconic drink.
Original Dr. Nielsen’s Bitter, which was almost gilded at The International Wine and Spirit Competition in 1997, is a testament to the quality and taste that has made it a favorite not only in Denmark, but also in neighboring countries such as Norway and Germany. It is made from an extract of 8 different herbs, including bitter orange and star anise, which gives a gentle and characterful taste experience. The aroma is dominated by anise, while the flavor spectrum spreads over the selected herbs and ends with a refined and perfectly matched aftertaste.
