Marzipan and nougat

Marzipan

The delicious marzipan is made from crushed almonds and sugar. It can be used in confectionery, ice cream, baked goods and is very popular for decorating. It’s easy to shape and if you add a little food coloring, you can easily make beautiful toppings or decorations for your next baked goods.

There are slightly different versions of the origin story of marzipan. One is about a young Italian girl who had to help her father who was a baker. But she hadn’t listened to the recipe properly when she was in love, so she chopped WAY too many almonds. The father was furious until he tasted the dough, which was heavenly. To make it perfect, he added liquid honey and cut it into small pieces that he sold in his shop under the name St. Marcus bread – Marci-panis.

Especially at Christmas time, a lot of marzipan is used to make delicious confectionery for young and old alike. Whether you’re baking a wreath cake for one of life’s big celebrations, making confectionery with the kids for Christmas or decorating a cake beautifully, you’ll find lots of inspiration on the Odense Marcipan website. Nougat

Nougat comes in several different flavors, but the one sold here is the soft nougat. Soft nougat is made from finely ground hazelnuts, chocolate, sugar and cream and can be used for a multitude of things. For example, it could be an ingredient for a Christmas confection or the core of a chocolate Easter egg.

The name Nougat itself comes from Latin where “nacatus” means “provided with nuts”
