Aalborg Christmas Aquavit 2022 is made from a distillate of cumin and dill seeds as well as coriander. In aroma and taste, it has a robust character of caraway with a fine aftertaste of orange, almond and coriander. A taste and quality that impressed at the International Spirits Challenge, where Aalborg Jule Akvavit received the highest award.
It is suitable for virtually all traditional Danish Christmas food, from marinated herring and salmon to roast pork, liver pâté and meatballs with sour. And it’s excellent for spoiling a Christmas mulled wine
Aalborg Christmas Akvavit rests on the craftsmanship principles of old times. That’s why it has its high potency, high caraway content, and rustic taste. The recipe has been the same since its launch in December 1982, but the bottle and packaging have varied from Christmas to Christmas. The alcohol percentage is high and is exactly 47.4 %-vol. This corresponds to 8 degrees spendrup, which was the unit of measurement for alcohol at the end of the 1800s.
Every year, the decoration of Aalborg Christmas Aquavit is something special, and this year Aalborg Akvavit and the Danish design icon Timothy Jacob Jensen have united the many traditions of the Nordic countries in one bottle. Aquavit is part of the Nordic food traditions and not least at Christmas, but this year the Christmas aquavit takes you all the way back to our Old Norse roots. The word Christmas comes from the Old Norse word ‘Jol’, where our ancestors met in December to celebrate that the days turned and brighter times were on the way. Timothy Jacob Jensen, together with his long-time collaborator, graphic artist Rikke Boe Nielsen, has designed a motif that celebrates the natural cycle and how the universe resets the darkness and once again makes room for light and life. The inspiration is taken from Timothy’s first apprenticeship as a designer with his father, Jacob Jensen, and the personal sun sign appears on closer inspection as a modern monogram with Timothy Jacob Jensen’s initials.
